Once a sheltered fishing village

Sliema Malta

Sliema is without doubt a town of contrasts.

With a wonderful array of bars to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. Many are of the TV football and/or disco music type – fine if that is what you want!  However, venture inland uphill and explore some of the many side streets and you will find a different world.  In amongst the often narrow residential streets you will find some small bars, often frequented by more locals than visitors, and it is here that you will be able to meet some Maltese and enjoy a quiet drink, that is the “real” Malta of old! Restaurants abound in Sliema with every possible type of cuisine to choose from. Pizzerias to more elegant fish restaurants will be pleased to serve you.

Our chosen hotel here

We offer the Palace hotel in Sliema, and can recommend it very highly.  The welcome is genuine and the service levels are very high.  A walk down to the seafront will bring you to lots of shops and restaurants, but you may want a taxi to take you back up the quite steep road!

You like to walk?

Stay in Sliema and walk along the promenade towards Tyne Point for some great views of Valetta. There are cinemas, recreation areas and a shopping mall here.

On the water

If you like to head out on the water, take any one of the many boats moored along Sliema seafront to see Grand Harbour and other points of interest from a different perspective.  Choose a calm day for a smooth sail. There are watersports on offer here too.
