Easy access to other areas

La Isla y el mar

Originally a small fishing village the old town with its harbour is still a lovely place to visit and is where you will find some good restaurants specialising in seafood.

The resort has grown over the years into a popular holiday destination but has not succumbed to a mass of high rise construction.

The beaches

Playa Grande is located along the main road that runs through Puerto Del Carmen. The beach is over 1 km in length and is golden sand. On the beach you will find plenty of sun beds, although you will have to pay around 3 euros hire per day. Some water activities are here including pedaloes, and some of the diving excursions depart from this beach.

Playa Chica is located in the Old Town of Puerto Del Carmen. The beach is very small and can get busy in the summer months. There are many different water sports and diving activities here and it is ideal for snorkeling.

Things to do

Although particularly known for its beaches the resort does have other attractions such as diving and windsurfing, safe bathing in calm waters, cycling, good shopping and a wealth of restaurants and bars.

There is a golf course just outside the resort – the eighteen hole, par 72 course has been open a few year and is located on the hills above Puerto del Carmen with great views of the ocean.

Local festivals

If you want a taste of local fun and entertainment visit during February when Carnival is on or during one of the other festivals such as Nuestra Senora del Carmen, the patron saint of the resort, when folklore, single and dancing performances go on until late at night.

This is a good location from which to explore other areas of the island including La Geria wineries, Cesar Manrique’s studio home and the Jardin de Cactus to name a few.
