Straddling a dramatic rocky lakefront outcrop, a majestic Scaliger Castle dominates the pretty medieval village of Malcesine. Situated on the North East side of the Lake, this popular resort has long been a favourite with British guests and is overlooked by the magnificent Monte Baldo mountain range, which provides a spectacular backdrop throughout this area.

Cobbled alleyways and narrow streets lined with busy cafés and bars lead down to Malcesine’s pretty piazza and harbour, where ferries whisk you off to other nearby attractions such as Limone, Torbole and Riva. There’s a good selection of shops and restaurants here and plenty of scenic spots to while away the time over a glass of delicious local ‘vino’. Centrally located, a visit to the castle is a must and here, during the summer season, there are even regular alfresco classical musical concerts – a real delight!

This well known, charming and popular resort is an ideal base for those looking for a classic picture postcard Lake Garda setting in an extremely scenic and dramatic part of the northern end of the lake.

Luxury shopping

Would any Lake Garda holiday be complete without strolling hand in hand through the narrow older streets and piazzas?  Be aware you may well be tempted to produce your credit card in one of the gorgeous shops on the way to buy a souvenir – will it be cashmere, fine jewellery or just a memorable dinner?

Local Attractions

Close to the centre of town, a cable car whisks you up in no time at all to the top of Monte Baldo; sitting at over 2,000m in altitude, from its peak you can marvel at the most fabulous views over both Lake Garda itself and the surrounding mountain ranges.

With places to eat and drink, plus a variety of scenic walks both along the Monte Baldo ridge, but also descending towards the midway cable car station, a day out here is an essential Malcesine experience. For the less active you can simply relax, enjoy the views and delight in the breathtaking antics of the many paragliders and mountain bikers!
