Unspoilt fishing village

Golf at Playa de Santiago La Gomera

On the south coast of La Gomera, a delightful quiet island, you will find the fishing village of Playa de Santiago.

The little village has a pretty promenade, leading to the Plaza del Carmen, where you will find both locals and holiday makers people watching in one of the cafés, bars or restaurants. There is a small protected pebble beach here too.

Prestige Holidays offers the beautiful Jardin Tecina hotel here – perched on a cliff to just above the village of Playa de Santiago.  It is a low rise property spread throughout lovely gardens with fantastic views of the ocean.

Next door to Jardin Tecina, in Playa de Santiago, is the islands only golf course. It offers the most breathtaking views of the natural beauty of the Gomeran landscape, the Atlantic Ocean and Mount Teide on Tenerife. The setting at Tecina is second to none and the sea is in view of the golfer on every hole, a claim that not many other courses around the world can match.

Inland from Playa de Santiago the terrain is quite different with plunging ravines, dramatic valleys and the Garajonay National Park. This area is perfect for walking, hiking or mountain biking. We would be delighted to introduce experienced walkers to a very knowledgeable, expert local guide to make the most of your time on the island.

Ancient Whistling Language

La Gomera’s deep ravines have given rise to a unique whistled language, called silbo, which can be heard up to two miles away. You can still hear it today on the island as it is now taught as part of the curriculum in the schools on La Gomera.
