No matter what you plan to do while you’re on holiday, one thing is certain – you’ll need to keep up your energy while abroad. And, although eating is a basic need, I believe food should nourish both the body and the mind. The perfect way to do so is to stay at one of the following high-end hotels known for their impeccable dining experiences. With some boasting Michelin star ratings and others with head chefs who have worked alongside the greats, a meal at any of these three restaurants is sure to excite and delight all of your senses.
Our Favourite Hotels for a High-End Dining Experience
I believe dining is about more than just food – it should be an experience. At these three world-class hotels, your meal is just that. Read on to find out where on earth you should stay for cuisine that is out of this world.
Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa, the Algarve
Although the Vila Vita Parc has an impressive selection of eight restaurants, their pride and joy is the Ocean. With its two Michelin-star rating, you definitely don’t want to miss this casually elegant fine-dining extravaganza. The head chef and lead designer of their seasonal menu is Hans Neuner, who has been awarded the title of Portugal’s Chef of the Year twice – so you know the food here is going to be absolutely impeccable.
My Favourite Meal: The Atlantic nori bread smothered in goat’s milk butter, followed by the line-caught sea bass, monks beard and mussels as a main, all washed down with a glass of wine from their famous (and enormous) wine cellar. And for dessert? The chocolate, carob, walnuts and guava were to die for.
Bella Luce Hotel, Guernsey
The aptly named Dining Room is the Bella Luce Hotel’s exquisite restaurant; eating out here is truly an unforgettable experience. Historic, relaxed and refined, a meal here is perfect for almost anyone – even children. The menu is tailored specifically for an immature palate, giving even the pickiest of little ones a chance to sample (and enjoy) high-class cuisine.
Your food will be in safe hands here. The head chef is none other than Simon McKenzie, a talented culinary master who has cooked alongside the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White.
My Favourite Meal: Begin with the Guernsey crab and heritage tomato salad, move on to a Sirloin steak served with rosemary chips and pickled wild mushrooms, before finishing with a delicious (and light) chocolate mousse.
Hotel Excelsior, Croatia
Found at the Hotel Excelsior, the Prora Restaurant is its crowning jewel. With a delightful atmosphere, a beachfront location and a Mediterranean-inspired menu, this eatery is not one to miss. Look out over the shimmering sea as you indulge in the artistic cuisine carefully cultivated by head chef Petar Obad – it’s as close as you’ll get to tasting poetry.
My Favourite Meal: Start with an octopus salad. For your main course, try the honey-glazed pork tenderloin. A white chocolate crème brûlée is the perfect dessert.
