Unbeatable weather, stunning locations and mouth-watering food… after all these years I’m still in love with Croatia. On the Kornati archipelago, nestled in a quiet forest of pine trees, lies of the best places to stay: the exclusive, modern and serene four-star Crvena Luka Hotel & Resort.
A Hidden Paradise
Hidden away amongst the luscious green of the Kornati archipelago, the Crvena Luka Hotel & Resort sits on its own private alcove by the coast, giving guests the perfect mix of tranquillity and privacy. Viewed from the coast, the hotel melts into the nature of the coast line, and the secluded beach is the perfect place for both activities and soaking up the sun. However, with the local town of Biograd na Moru only 3km away, you’re not far from the action despite the peace of the resort.
The resort itself was completely renovated in 2013, with rooms, apartment suites and independent villas spread across the grounds, so there’s something to suit your specific needs. My personal highlights include the rooftop bar and the wellness and spa centre – and of course, the lagoon-like piece of coast with sparkling clear water and a soft sandy beach.
Spoiled for Choice
The Crvena Luka Hotel & Resort has a dining option for each taste. The Beach Bar Movida on the seafront is the ideal place for a morning coffee, though of course they serve a whole range of inventive cocktails all throughout the day. For lunch, head to the Il Doge and enjoy a wide range of local and international dishes on a balcony overlooking the pine grove and the bay beyond. If you have space, head to the Gelateria Gelatiamo for some delicious homemade desserts.
Save the best till last and visit the À la Carte Restaurant Il Moro (I recommend an hour or so before sunset). Here is where the Crvena shows off its true culinary dexterity: try fresh fish, lobster, shrimp and more. Delightfully creative recipes using local ingredients, not to mention the exquisite wine list, ensure an evening of fine dining.
For When You’re Done Relaxing…
There’s only one way to appreciate the Kornati archipelago in all its glory: by boat. Skippers are available for rent (with the right qualifications of course), but you can also arrange private day trips to the different local islands. It’s also possible to learn how to sail in private classes.
The hotel also offers numerous heart-stopping water sports. They’ll be no time to appreciate the scenery as you whizz past the coast atop the Jumbo Dog 5 or Crazy UFO 8. A slower but no less exhilarating option is the Aquaglide Trampoline stationed out in swell. There’s also aqua aerobics, and kayaking to explore the local coastline. However, if you want to stay closer to home, the hotel has tennis courts available for guests’ use.
