Green Fingered Gems: Our Favourite Exotic Gardens

Here at Prestige Holidays, we’ve dug up some of our favourite exotic gardens – we left the flowers and plants completely undisturbed, but we did gather some gems for you.

Those with a green thumb looking for an exotic getaway need search no further. Nature enthusiasts will love this list of our favourite (not to mention most beautiful and interesting) gardens throughout Lanzarote, Italy and Morocco. And the natural beauty doesn’t stop there – we’ve put together a list of accommodation that will let you spend your downtime among plants as well, whether it’s sleeping with orange trees outside your window in Morocco or Lanzarote resorts with their own gardens. Get out your spade and dig into these holiday ideas.

César Manrique’s Cactus Garden, Lanzarote

In the heart of the biggest cactus plantation in Lanzarote – and complete with 13 cacti families from five continents, 450 species and 4,500 specimens – lies Jardín de Cactus. Imagined by artist César Manrique, the cactus garden is located in an ancient quarry. Today, the contrasting plant-greens, sky-blues and blacks from the volcano in the distance, mixed with the sounds of birds and insects, make this prickly palace a must-see for cactus lovers all over the world.

Where to Stay

If you’re a nature lover, the best location to base yourself in is Yaiza, a quaint town close to Timanfaya National Park. Consider staying in one of these two comfortable Lanzarote resorts, both just 40 minutes away from Jardín de Cactus: Casa de Hilario or La Casona de Yaiza (the latter of these Lanzarote resorts even has its own garden).

Sigurtà Garden Park, Italy

With a history that goes back to 1407, Parco Giardino Sigurtà began as a farm before eventually becoming the enormous garden park it is today. Come and stroll through Avenue of the Roses, navigate a maze made up of yew trees, fall in love with the Romeo and Juliet horizontal sun dial or find forever at the stone of eternal youth. And that’s just the beginning – there are countless parks, lakes and lawns featuring a high selection of plants, flowers, animals and buildings.

Where to Stay

Gardening enthusiasts will love Bellvue San Lorenzo. Its grounds are ripe with cypress, olive, magnolia, laurel and myrtle trees, and it has a lovely view of Lake Garda – plus it’s only an hour away from Parco Giardino Sigurtà.

Nectarome Aromatic Garden, Morocco

Only a short drive from Morocco’s vibrant city of Marrakech is Nectarome’s Organic Aromatic Garden. Nectarome creates natural and modern cosmetic products, and the aromatic garden is where the company get the ingredients that comprise its final products. They grow approximately 50 aromatic ornamental and medicinal plants, most of which originate from the region. Come here with an open mind and nose, and leave with a sweet smell you’ll never forget.

Where to Stay

Just a 45-minute drive from Nectarome Aromatic Garden is Les Jardins de la Medina; this hotel is a garden lover’s dream come true. Its grounds feature beautiful orange trees, so whether you’re out and about visiting Nectarome or home for the night, you’ll be surrounded by all the natural beauty you could possibly wish for.
