Set against a backdrop of the Sierra Blanca Mountains and a foreground of the glittering Mediterranean, one can’t help but fall in love with the natural beauty of Marbella and Puerto Banús. But more than that, these super Spanish gems provide plenty of ways to relax and explore in style from a base in one of our luxury properties.
Holiday of the Month: Marbella & Puerto Banús
Ah, the Costa del Sol. Is there anywhere in Europe that inspires more idyllic visions of a luxury sun, sea and sand getaway? At Prestige Holidays, we love it so much we think an escape to Marbella and Puerto Banús deserves to be our holiday of the month!
France may have its Riviera but Spain’s Costa del Sol is every bit as glamorous and (arguably) wins hands down in the beauty stakes. A popular haunt with the rich and famous for many years, its luxury accoutrements are more than skin deep.
In the Old Town you can wander the ancient pedestrian streets to admire the Renaissance architecture and stop for vino and tapas in Plaza de los Naranjos. Just a short distance away, Alamedar Park is a refined oasis-like garden filled with exotic plantings and hand-painted tiles depicting the Andalusian history of the city. From there, the pedestrianised Avenida del Mar is a picturesque palm-lined avenue leading to the marina lined with public art, including some by Salvador Dalí.
Alongside an easily accessible culture there are more than 20 gorgeous and well-facilitated beaches, several exclusive championship golf clubs, high-end shopping and Michelin-starred restaurants in plentiful supply.
Just a short distance from the Old Town of Marbella, Puerto Banús steps up the glamour even more. As the most exclusive and ritzy destination on the Costa del Sol, it’s time to dress up, dust off your credit card and prepare to rub shoulders with the glitterati. Even the beaches are upmarket here, with the glamorous Playa Rio Verde stretching out for 1,500 glorious metres of delicate pink sand lined with fine restaurants and cocktail bars.
“Celebrity faces are almost as commonplace as tapas in swanky Puerto Banús.”
The town centres around the luxury marina, and simply taking a stroll along the promenade lined with restaurants, super yachts and sleek speed boats gives you an idea of the wealthy visitors it attracts. Designer shopping is high on the agenda and the list of shops along Calle Ribera reads like a who’s who of designers, including Gucci, Dior, Lanvin et al. The pinnacle of the retail experience is the famous El Corte Inglés, which offers five floors of luxury shopping.
To make the “perfect” getaway to the Costa del Sol truly perfect, I can’t think of a better recommendation than the extravagant Puente Romano Beach Resort & Spa. Set within easy access of both Marbella and Puerto Banús, this opulent hotel provides a luxurious base, featuring superb onsite dining, a tranquil spa centre and over 50 golf courses that are only a stone’s throw away.
