Top Picks: Trendy Port Towns for Shoppers and Yachters

Sometimes the finer things in life feel like they’re only in reach when on holiday. At Prestige Holidays we’re excited to help you decide where to go for your luxury break, and we’re sure these sun-soaked hotspots for shoppers and yachters will be exactly what you’re looking for.

Puerto Portals

It’s not for nothing that Puerto Portals in Mallorca attracts more than its fair share of megastars during the summer season: Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey and Paris Hilton have all come to enjoy its laid-back atmosphere, top-notch designer shopping and hot nightlife. If you ‘forgot’ to pack your finest shoes or watch, Puerto Portals will have you dressed for a night of cocktails and people-watching in no time.

Feast at Flanigan

Start the evening in style with delicious fresh fish or steak tartar at Flanigan Restaurant. With a location right by the waterfront, no doubt many of your fellow diners will have come from their yachts so you’ll be in excellent company. Naturally booking in advance is advised – Flanigan has been going for 30 years for a reason!

I recommend topping proceedings off at Roxy’s Beach Bar. There is no pounding techno and smoke machines here – just a chilled but unmistakeably classy vibe that goes down as well as the excellent cocktails.

John’s Recommended Hotel

If you’re going to holiday in luxury then you have to stay in luxury. Look no further than the Iberostar Grand Hotel Portals Nous – past clients have said that they can’t get enough of the butler service that’s always ready to indulge their fancies. Why not try checking yourself and your partner into the Naughty Suite, with plenty of mirrors and lots of velvet to get the imagination going?

Marina Rubicon

Part of the Playa Blanca resort in southern Lanzarote, Marina Rubicon has been pulling in a well-heeled clientele since it opened in 2003. Stroll, shop and sail – what more could a luxury traveller want?

Retail Relaxation

Marina Rubicon’s tax-free designer shops always come up with the goods. Treat you and your partner to some holiday gifts at any of these stores:

  • San Babila stocks on-point Italian clothing
  • Perfumeria Sabina is the place for perfumes and makeup
  • Joyeria L’Ermitage has a great range of male and female accessories, including watches and jewellery

Should you feel the need to dig into your wallet a little more there’s a twice weekly local market, selling local wines and leather goods, every Wednesday and Saturday. There’s no need to get up at the crack of dawn for it, as it runs until 2pm.

After all that ‘hard work’, unwind with a speed boat trip for two. Champagne? Yes. Beautiful sunset? Of course. Romance? I’ll leave that to you…

The H10 Rubicon Palace knows its customers well. With three separate areas, one of which is a quiet zone intended for adults, tranquillity will descend upon you as soon as you arrive. To make the most of a stay here, I recommend securing one of their Privilege Rooms. Once you’ve had your fill of the free bar service and sun terrace at the Privilege Lounge (it may take a while), head down to the Thalasso spa for a massage and dip in a Jacuzzi.

Vilamoura

Its marina has 1000 berths and it is one of Europe’s biggest private tourist resorts: Vilamoura is the sort of place where less definitely isn’t more.

Tee Off and Have a Flutter

Golf and the Algarve go together, like bacalhau and a glass of Vinho Verde. Vilamoura itself is blessed with multiple championship-standard golf courses; handicap certificates are necessary but once you’re in 18 holes of pure golfing delight await.

Whether you’ve had a strong day on the fairway or not, Vilamoura Casino is a great place to relax and see a show or have a flutter or two. Afterwards grab a table at Sete Café, the bar that’s co-owned by none other than footballing legend Luis Figo and national celebrity Paulo China. It’s right in the heart of things on the marina: expect to rub shoulders with similarly well-to-do couples and perhaps a celebrity or two who come to chill out at the White Room upstairs.

When you’re in Vilamoura and want to turn things up a notch, Kadoc Club is the place to go. Everyone who wants to see and be seen heads here to dance the night away in the company of some serious DJs, such as Eric Morillo.

If only all hotels were like The Lake Resort… it puts on a shuttle to each of Vilamoura’s golf courses and has a spa that’s pure heaven after a big night out or tough day spent by the pool. Inspired by the five senses, the Blue Spa has hydrotherapy treatments galore while the Green Spa offers Eastern therapies such as Ayurvedic massage from India and Japanese Shiatsu.
