Elevated Views Over Taormina
With unparalleled glamour and astounding views over the Bay of Taormina and Mt. Etna, the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo has a long-upheld reputation as one of the most exclusive properties in Italy. From the elegant rooms to the magnificence of the Presidential Suite, the hotel’s style and sophistication are legendary.
Guests are treated to the same views that were muse to some of the world’s most celebrated literary figures, including such eminent names as D.H. Lawrence and Guy de Maupassant. The hotel’s location on the cliffs of Mount Tauro affords easy access to Taormina’s most notable attraction, the ancient Greek Theatre, and puts the charming hilltop town at your fingertips.
Dining or partaking in a drink in the restaurant or the hotel’s Literary Terrace could well be one of the most magical experiences of your life – as it was mine. The sweeping panoramic views of the coastline provide a memorable extra dimension, the perfect complement to a chilled Bellini or a meal from the expansive menu featuring authentic regional Sicilian and Mediterranean gastronomy. For casual dining, the Pool Restaurant serves up fresh seafood, brick-oven pizzas and snacks – accompanied by those staggering views.
Luxury and Seclusion in Taormina
With the ocean quite literally on the very doorstep, and set around its own private beach in Taormina, Belmond Villa Sant’ Andrea provides the ultimate in luxury and seclusion, yet with the centre of town just a three-minute cable car ride away. Surrounded by lush gardens, the hotel provides a front row seat to the stunning Bay of Mazzaró, with deluxe rooms and suites offering their own terrace or balcony. The elegantly appointed accommodation is decorated in the classic Italian style, with opulent bathrooms and, always, those indulgent views over the ocean.
Romantic Dining on the Beach
Dining under the stars on the hotel’s private beach makes for the ideal romantic interlude, and the chefs can prepare a special menu as the perfect complement to this most intimate setting. In Restaurant Oliviero you’ll dine on contemporary Italian cuisine overlooking the ocean, while on Sunday barbeque nights, the sumptuous seafood takes casual dining to a new level.
My very favourite gastronomic experience here is the “afternoon sea”, which takes the English notion of high tea and turns it on its head, with delicate seafood appetisers and Champagne instead of tea and scones.
Relax in Style
When it comes time to catch the sun, you can choose from the picturesque infinity pool, or relax in a sun lounger on the private beach. For even more privacy, you can secure the exclusive use of a private cabana complete with minibar
An Intimate Rural Escape on Mallorca
Set on the edge of an artists’ village on the beautiful Balearic island of Mallorca, Belmond La Residencia wraps you in a warm Spanish embrace and enfolds you in luxury. Set against the backdrop of the Tramuntana Mountain Range, this magical boutique hotel has its own art gallery and is home to one of the country’s largest permanent sculpture gardens.
An Authentic Ambience
Every room, suite and villa is unique, decorated in the charming authentic Mallorcan style. Antique furnishings and other authentic touches endow the property with a wonderful traditional ambience. The hotel has two outdoor pools with views over the citrus and olive groves, and for those looking for the ultimate privacy, some suites feature private pools.
Fine Dining and More
I experienced one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten at the hotel’s award-winning El Olivo restaurant. Executive Chef Guillermo Méndez is one of Spain’s most talented fine dining exponents and he’s created a dining experience of the highest calibre. The more relaxed Café Miró is set against a collection of its namesake’s original artwork, which is almost enough to detract you from the fantastic regional cuisine – but, luckily, not quite. You can also dine al fresco around the pool if the sunshine is all too tempting to leave behind.
A Magical Hideaway on Madeira
With views to infinity over the Atlantic Ocean, Belmond Reid’s Palace is renowned as one of Funchal’s finest hotels. This magical private hideaway on Madeira offers family-friendly luxury within lovely sub-tropical gardens. Adding to its appeal for active guests, the hotel offers a range of activities including hiking, garden tours, golf and boating excursions.
Old World Elegance and Charm
The charming Old World ambience of the hotel extends with effortless elegance throughout the range of rooms and suites, with two magnificent Presidential Suites providing the pinnacle of luxury. For families, interconnecting Junior Suites offer even more flexible options.
Accompanied by jaw dropping views, the Michelin-starred William Restaurant gave me the finest of all my fine dining experiences on Madeira – in fact, we named it as one of our very favourite luxury retreats for gourmands. But the gastronomic excellence doesn’t stop there, with The Dining Room turning on the classic charm with its glamorous décor and superb cuisine. The hotel’s famous afternoon tea is a wonderfully timeless and elegant experience, but you’ll need to dress to impress to enjoy the delightful privilege.
