Charming and very pretty

Puerto de Mogan Gran Canaria

In the south of the island, about 15 minutes from Maspalomas, Puerto de Mogan is a truly very beautiful spot for a holiday in Gran Canaria.  A network of sea water canals are linked by pretty bridges.  The local houses are usually covered in bougainvillaea adding splashes of colour.

There are many luxurious yachts in the leisure port where they are numerous cafés, restaurants, shops and bars serving fresh seafood.  The whole area is very picturesque indeed.  There is also a small commercial port where fishing boats still ply their trade.  In July the Fiesta del Carmen celebrates the patron saint of fisherfolk.  Festivities include concerts, fireworks and a final procession on the water led by a boat carrying a statue of the Virgin.

Friday is market day with a mixture of souvenirs, jewellery and comestibles on sale.  As can be expected from an area where the sea is so important, there are several opportunities for visitors to get out on the sea.

The beach

Mogan has a lovely beach of golden sand (imported from the Sahara) where you will find plenty of facilities. Sun loungers, umbrellas and pedaloes are available for hire.  Nearby there are water sports available such as parascending, jet skis, fishing excursions and if you want to learn to divE there is a PADI diving centre, snorkelling around the breakwater where the water in clear and calm would be fun.

Hire a car

This is a good area to explore the south of Gran Canaria and a hire car will add another dimension to your holiday.
