Hotel Bastion

In many ways it merits five star, not 4!

The Hotel

The original building dates from the 13th Century when it was a castle within the city’s defensive walls. Sections of these original walls can be seen on the lower ground floor and the outside garden lounge which wraps around part of the old tower. Original stone staircase. Protected or listed heritage buildings are not usually allowed to have a lift – yet Bastion has one.

Overall this is where Art Deco style (purple velvet banquette seating and chandelier style lights) meets modern design. Wi-fi throughout the hotel.

27 air-conditioned rooms and suites. Stylish with quality fabrics and furniture. As this is an historic building most of the rooms are different shapes and sizes. There are 22 standard double rooms most with queen-size beds (few twins on request). Superior rooms, deluxe rooms, standard suites and one deluxe suite. Standard suites have a bedroom plus a living room with a sofabed for one adult or two children and are spacious. No balconies because of the historic status except for the deluxe suite which has a balcony. Most rooms have good seaviews across the Zadar channel, others have street view.

Rooms are refurbished each year using striking colour themes such as grey with silver or red with yellow. All wooden floors. Charming photos of old Zadar. Satellite TV, mini-bar, safe, hairdryer, robes and slippers. Bathrooms have either bath with shower or walk-in shower. Rooms on the fourth floor have bathrooms with bath and shower and have sloping ceilings. These have the best views of the Zadar channel.

Restaurant Kastel is on the ground floor and has a traditional, rustic interior and lovely open terrace.

Breakfast is served here buffet style with hot dishes cooked to order. Hotel is geared to bed and breakfast accommodation with à la carte dining. Kastel Bar is plush with carved sections and interesting lighting.

The Upper Terrace restaurant is partly covered with a lovely outdoor feeling overlooking the city and à la carte menu for lunch and dinner is served here. Lunch or dinner can also be served in the outside garden lounge by the tower on the ground floor. Food is high quality with many local people choosing the hotel restaurant.

Lower ground floor is home to a small spa and gym (gold and pink marble effect) and covering a larger area than might be imagined. Finnish sauna, Turkish steam room, Jacuzzi, good choice of treatments and a small cardio fitness gym where the machines are located alongside an original old stone wall.

Perfect for adults who want a city location in a beautiful, historic building. Boutique yet sumptuous atmosphere.

We will get you here from Zadar airport in about 30 minutes or from Split airport in about 1 hour 15 minutes.
