Makarska Croatia

The stretch of coast that includes the resorts of Baska Voda, Tucepi and Makarska itself is generally known as the Makarska Riviera. It is in the Central Dalmatia region and it is without doubt one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Croatia.

Makarska is a 10 kms south of Baska Voda and is the liveliest resort on this stretch of coast. There’s a big bay bordered by two peninsulas and a glorious wide seafront promenade from where a regular ferry makes the 40 minute crossing to Sumartin on the eastern tip of the island of Brac.

Endless pavement cafés and two rather interesting bar-nightclubs set out on the peninsulas both in sea caves, plus an interesting restaurant scene (including a moored boat serving catch of the day and local beer or wine) make this the place for a holiday with more of a buzz.

Watersport and walking

If you feel energetic and enjoy the great outdoors, organised hikes are available for serious walkers – from Makarska to Sveti Jure (the peak of Biokovo at 1762 metres), is slightly less than a six hour climb. Watersports and excursions by boat are also available from Makarska.

Hotel Osejava is just five minute walk into the centre and the Park, Meteor and Dalmacija hotels are a ten minute walk away and located in quieter spots with the long pebble beach on their doorstep.
