Good for walkers in particular

Mljet Croatia

The island of Mljet is a green forested island which has long been a favourite of British visitors.

The north western half of the island forms the Mljet national park where the vegetation is lush and is the location of the spectacular saltwater lakes. Following a complicated history, the island was given to the Benedictine order in the 12th century which constructed a monastery in the middle of Vliko Jezero (big lake).

You can rent the paddle boats and bicycles and there is some excellent diving and good walking paths. There is just one road that runs across the island and it is a really quiet spot, perfect for nature lovers who particularly enjoy forest walks.

We feature the Hotel Odisej in Pomena where there are just a couple of bars and restaurants near the harbour.
