La Orotava

The town of La Orotava spreads across the immense valley of banana plantations from which the town gets its name. Full of historical buildings and other architecture of noble ancestry, it is without a doubt, an ideal place to come into contact with the local culture and traditions and the island´s history. The old town centre, which has been declared in its entirety a Monument of National Historical and Artistic Interest, is home to architectural gems of noteworthy character and also to one of our latest additions the Victoria Hotel.
In an area of natural beauty, the town of La Orotava is surrounded by banana plantations and wooded hillsides and looks up to the volcano, indeed, this valley forms a large part of the Teide National Park.
Facing the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the coast of La Orotava offers the visitor small beaches, tranquil, solitary and surprising due to the peculiar nature of their volcanic sand. El Bollullo, Martín Alonso and Ancón are but three coves. Villa Nati another of our smaller properties is in this area too.

Garachico

Garachico is a fishing town on the edge of the Atlantic, just over 60kms from the capital of Tenerife Santa Cruz. Rebuilt after 1706 when the former town had been buried by volcanic lava this town has charm, unique architecture,  houses with large internal courtyards, enormous doorways and shady hallways which give the buildings a remarkable atmosphere, one of these has been converted to the lovely San Roque hotel which we highly recommend.
The sea is one of the most charming aspects of Garachico so it is no surprise that there are swimming pools, beaches and sheltered little bays, and in contrast, you can go up to the pine forest at La Montañeta. A truly lovely area and a definite for those seeking peace and tranquility mixed with local culture and nature areas.

Getting  around

Car hire is probably still one of the best ways to discover the island at your own pace. To rent a car you will need a valid driving license (of course!) and passport. The car hire company we use (Oasis Rent a Car) has the best insurance cover of all. No extra hidden charges and no CDW. This can be booked at the same time as your holiday or on arrival with our local staff. We have some rather special and very different small country hotels for the more independent traveller and we include car hire with these properties.

If you plan to get around by local bus our excellent team on the island will provide you with a timetable. The local bus company gives a good service but it can be a little time consuming. It is, however, a great way to get from the resorts to Santa Cruz (the capital city) for some retail therapy.

We do provide you with a travel guide before you go and our reservation staff know the island well to and will be happy to advise which area or property would suit you best.

For some it is the beaches…

Tenerife has some high quality, man made beaches, most of a fine black shingle or sand. These are mainly around the major tourist resorts. Most have good access, meet stringent European standards of cleanliness and most offer shower facilities, sun beds, shades and water-sports.
