A super Country House hotel right on the golf course

Small and exquisitely recreated from an early 19th century hunting lodge, the Casa Velha, a Relais & Châteaux Hotel, offers the highest levels of comfort and service. Funchal is about seven kilometres away in the courtesy bus, which also takes guests to the nearby Palheiro Golf Clubhouse, within the estate.

The Quinta sits in extensive gardens offering space and tranquillity. The famous Palheiro Gardens are adjacent  – during open hours entrance is free to guests here.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation, dining and leisure facilities all combine superbly to offer something for everyone. There are three separate buildings. The “Old House” has the public areas, junior suites, deluxe and some standard rooms; the “Garden” wing has standard rooms and the “Golf” wing houses the senior suites, with a whirlpool bath and some superior rooms, every room is very elegant. The room appointments include cable TV (BBC World and CNN), heating, safe, hairdryer and mini-bar. Views are generally of the gardens.

DINING

The Morning Room and the Lounge Bar are cosy spots for relaxation during the day or for a pre-dinner aperitif. The choice in the lovely dining room is extensive – a daily menu for half board guests, the à la carte menu (credit given for half board guests) or, for a special occasion, a seven course Gourmet menu, all prepared under the expert guidance of a very experienced team of chefs. Smart casual dress is requested for dinner. The Light Meal menu is offered both for lunch and room service.

LEISURE FACILITIES & SPA

There is an outdoor pool and the tennis court is floodlit. Badminton, croquet, table tennis or billiards may also tempt. Golfers will enjoy a 30% reduction on green fees at the adjacent Palheiro course or at the Santo da Serra course. Guaranteed tee off times at Palheiro and trolleys at the hotel and club storage add to guests’ convenience. Golf packages are available, do please ask. The Tea House is the perfect place to break a mid morning stroll around the gorgeous gardens and the Clubhouse offers “lunch with a view”.

The luxurious Palheiro Spa is a wonderful new addition and features a sauna, Turkish bath, heated indoor pool and a fitness room. Access for guests is free and there are 4 treatment rooms with a fascinating menu of treatments.
