Golf in Cyprus

Now with three courses and with its temperate climate Cyprus is becoming a favourite with guests looking to play whilst on holiday.  Here we list some information on the three courses. At each of the courses the handicap requirement is 28 for men and 36 for ladies.

Tsada Golf Club - Just 20 minutes north of Paphos on the way to Polis this course is set in a gently valley in the grounds of a 12th century Monastry.  An 18 hole championship course it plays to a par 72 and measures 6060 metres. No two holes are alike and this course challenges all abilities and requires accuracy more than the long hit. Facilities include Golf Pro, large driving range and 2 putting greens and other practice areas. A country style club house, a pro shop, club and manual or electric trolley or buggy hire.

Secret Valley Golf Club – 15 minutes east of Paphos Aphrodite’s Rock this course is at sea level and is an 18 hole championship course which plays to par 71 and measures 5904 metres.  The front 9 holes are a good warm up for the more challenging back nine. Naturally there is a golf pro and a  practice area with a large driving range, 2 putting greens, a pitching/chipping area and fairway bunkers.  The Cypriot architecture is the style of the club house and the pro shop has all you need and you can hire clubs, trolleys and buggies.

Aphrodite Hills Golf Club – This is the most recent addition to the golf scene in Cyprus and is part of the resort of the same name, only 13 minutes from Paphos and aprrox half an hour from Limassol. Set on two plateaux at 300 metres above sea level the course has great views of the Mediterranean.  An 18 hole championship course that plays to par 71/70 and measures 6269 metres this stunning course offers a mix of challenges.  Each hole is distinctive for example the par 3 7th has a gorge separating tees from green with a carry of 130 meters.    There is a golf academy here and good practice areas, the sophisticated club house has the pro shop and club and buggy rental and there are two golf pros on hand.

Places to visit are numerous and include…

Paphos area

Tomb of the Kings – is probably the most famous ancient site in Paphos. Spread over a vast area, these impressive underground tombs date back to the 4th century BC. They are carved out of solid rock some are decorated with Doric pillars. High officials rather than Kings were buried here, but the magnificence of the tombs gave them the name.

There are some beautiful churches in the Paphos area to visit..

The Mosaics of Paphos are to be found in the House of Dionysos, the House of Theseus and the House of Aion. The mosaic floors of these noblemen's villas dating from the 3rd to the 5th century AD are considered among the finest in the Eastern Mediterranean. They mainly depict scenes from Greek mythology.

The Paphos Medieval Fort is beneath the harbour area of Paphos and gives a fascinating insight to the islands medieval history

The Akamas Peninsula is a protected nature reserve and is a mixture of wild natural countryside, gorges and coastline rich in endemic species of plant and animal. The coast in particularly protected and no development is allowed here and much it remain unchanged for centries.  The Bay of Lara is the last remaining hatching ground for  green turtles in the Mediterranean, in fact Lara Bay translates as Turtle Bay. Trips can be organised or for those who prefer walking there are three nature trails that take in Akamas and range from 2 – 4 hours.  There are also Archaeological site here too.  Where ever you are staying on the island this area is well worth a visit.
