Monte – an oasis of calm and relaxation

A favourite area of ours for many years, Monte is 10 minutes from the centre of Funchal but feels like another world. Funchal is a bustling busy town whilst Monte is an oasis of calm. Often visited, this village is surrounded by gardens and has a beautiful church at its heart and this lovely Quinta.

It is believed that the climate at Monte has therapeutic qualities, true or not the atmosphere definitely lends itself to relaxation as does the Quinta with its traditional elegant style. Within the grounds is the original Chapel of the Quinta do Monte that has been meticulously restored.

The original quinta is where you’ll find comfortable lounge areas, a library, a games room and the cocktail bar, ideal for meeting fellow guests over an aperitif.

Connected to the main house is a new building where you will find the lovely restaurant and its ‘winter garden’ conservatory area, a delightful spot for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. Dinner is waiter service in the restaurant. Gala dinners are included in our prices for 24 and 31 Dec and 4 Apr. On 31 Dec transport to Quinta Das Vistas for a champagne party is also included.

Also in this building are a gym and the guest rooms. Guests can also use the facilities at sister hotels Quinta do Estreito, das Vistas and Perestrello, including exchange dining, with the choice of 4 other restaurants including a free shuttle transfer.

Accommodation is in 36 good sized attractively furnished twin bedded standard rooms, 2 larger Superior rooms and 4 Suites that have a separate sitting room. All rooms have a balcony, air-conditioning, cable TV, mini-bar, hairdryer, free safe and some rooms interconnect. Guests in Suites can enjoy free soft drinks and beers in the mini-bar on arrival (not replenished).

A covered heated swimming pool set in the hotel's grounds, with a jacuzzi and a Turkish bath will help to keep guests trim.

The Quinta do Monte, is an ideal place to start a levada walk, arrange horse riding or experience two of the three different ways of getting to and from Funchal: the traditional toboggan ride in a basket over cobbled streets or the modern cable car which is located moments from the Quinta and takes you directly to the old town area of Funchal (a great way to view the sights). The third way, only slightly more mundane is by road. There is a courtesy bus to town and sister hotels everyday, except bank holidays and Sundays. There is also a second cable car to take you to the Botanical Gardens.
