Cyprus Beaches
Beaches are particularly good in Cyprus many of which hold European Blue Flag status. In addition to the beaches in front of our hotels there are also:
In the Limassol area
Ladies' Mile this is a beautiful long sandy beach located near the New Limassol Port and is only a 10-15 minute drive from Limassol Town centre. Here you can walk along the golden sandy beach, swim in the crystal calm waters and there are water sports facilities here too, windsurfing is particularly popular as the water here is shallow and very clear, which also makes it safe for children.
Curium Beach One of the most appealing beaches on the island, Curium is a beach of unspeakable beauty. The sea is rough and wild, whereas the beaches are gentle to have fun on. The renovated Roman Curium Amphitheatre is directly above this beach, and you may see hand-gliders riding above the nearby cliffs. This beach is also a popular sailing spot but can get become very busy with swimmers.
Governor's Beach is located midway between Larnaca and Limassol and is a sandy beach with shallow clear water, ideal for families and couples alike. It has the well know white rocks area for snorkelling, fishing or just a promenade on one of the nature trails nearby. There are restaurants nearby for lunch too
Pissouri area
Pissouri Beach is located close to the lovely village of Pissouri. Its waters are clean, warm and safe to swim in with a beautiful sandy, shingle beach. During the summer there are a number of water sports facilities and there is also a small diving school. Rarely overcrowded, except for Sundays when the locals have the time to go to the beach. There are also many taverns along the beach.
Paphos and Akamus area
Coral Bay is famed for having one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island, and with its sparkling clear waters, safe swimming and sport facilities, it’s not surprising that it’s a favourite with tourists and locals alike. Close are shops, supermarkets, restaurants and taverns.
Lara Bay is in a more remote area with one of the best beaches on the island although it is accessed by a poor dirt track. Locals recommend using a jeep or similar vehicle to get there though it is worth it. Well known as the place where loggerhead and greenback turtles lay their eggs, Lara is also home to the Mediterranean monk seal, another very rare species. Beyond the turtle hatchery, the most beautiful beaches with white sand and clear waters can be found, but the water can suddenly get deep and the current can change, swimmers should well aware. You can also reach this beach by boat from Paphos.
Latchi Beach is a pebble beach and this area used to be know as a sponge diving area until the supply was exhausted. Swimmers should take care as there is a sharp change in water depth though this is a benefit to scuba divers and other water sports enthusiasts. Within the fishing village are tavernas and coffee shops.
Please see our separate page above where we show some of the many activities available including water sports, golf, spas and more.
Events in Cyprus
There are so many events that we show some of the main annual ones and will regularly update others on a month by month basis on our What’s on page above.
As Cyprus is now part of the EU the currency is Euros and you can also use a British 3 pin plug here.
Getting Around
Car Hire does give you so much freedom to explore this lovely island with its historical sites, wonderful mountains and country side, coastal areas and nature reserves. The roads are very good and like us Cyprus drives on the left!
Bus companies in Cyprus link all major towns together the most frequent services operate from Monday to Friday, there is a limited service on Saturdays and Sundays. Rural services between villages make frequent stops and although there are buses in towns like Limassol, for the tourist they don’t appear to be much use. Most things you need are within walking distance or a taxi ride would be more direct.
Taxis are widely available and reasonable for short journeys.
Local best buys include: Lefkara embroidery, wine, ceramics, and brass.
