The Nejjarine Fondouk
Found near the square of the same name, close to the carpenters souk, is this restored Fondouk (warehouse) which is now a Museum of Wooden Arts, the furniture, tools and history displayed is a recognition of the skill of the artisan, but the building itself is also attractive and the lovely fountain is decorated with mosaics. You are so close to the wood workers souk here it would be well worth a look at today’s pieces.
The Tazzeka National Park
You can take an excursion out of town to the Tazzeka National Park, it would take about 4 to 5 hours. Close to Taza this was created as a protected area in 1950 and home to more than 500 plant species and various animals such as wild cat, mongoose, genet, and Berberia deer amongst others. This excursion can be arranged by our local agent.
There is plenty more to see in Fes but really to make the best of a visit here we would recommend a local guide which can be organised either by our agent or by the hotel.
Take a drive in a taxi around the Tour de Fes, it is a ring road around the city and it will put everything into perspective.
Esssaouia area
This coastal fishing town is a complete contrast to the cities mentioned above. It appeals to lovers of water sports in particular surfers and wind surfers, but also to those who enjoy being on the coast.
Water sports – with several kilometres of beach on a sheltered bay most water sports are available but the real favourites here are windsurfing, kite surfing and surfing, in fact the national kite surf championships were held here in 2005. Beaches outside the town are also good for surfing activities, for example, Sidi Kaouki and Moulay Bouzerktoune, but are unsupervised and only for the experienced surfer.
Essaouira has always appealed to artists and so it is appropriate that there is a Museum of Regional Art (the Sidi Ben Abdallah) the ground floor is dedicated to music whilst the regional art of rugs, jewellery costumes and and reproduction henna body art drawings are on the upper floor. This area has a strong Andalucian link and the heritage reflects that.
The Skala (fortifications) just outside town have terrific views of the town and surrounding areas.
The harbour where local fishermen bring in their catches has open air cafes where you choose your fish from the days catch and it is prepared for you there and then, you can’t get fresher than that and the atmosphere is vibrant.
Ouirgane area
This rural area can be explored on horse back, with a guide or by car, it is beautiful countryside and you can even visit a Berber village nearby. Fishing is done in this area too. Walking, hiking or trekking can be organised from our hotel choice, La Roseraie. Slightly further away are the Muslim and Jewish sanctuary, The Tin Mal Mosque and water sports at Lalla Takerkoust dam. There is a Berber weekly market in Ouirgane too.
Agadir
Most of our clients go to the Raid des Golfs, our hotel in this area, for relaxation and to get away from it all and maybe to play golf. But its short distance from the beaches and town of Agadir means that a day out at the beach is easy arranged. This modern bustling city has all the other attractions one would expect of a seaside resort and we would be happy to give you more information.
