What to do in Morocco

Image

History, Culture, beautiful countryside, the coast and more!

This is such a large country with such diversity that there are so many things you can do, we list here some of the better known activities and sites, as a start point. We would, as always, be happy to advise on specific things you may be interested in.
We have touched on some things to see and do in each location on our introduction to Morocco so we won’t repeat those here.

Golf in Morocco

Golf has become very important in Morocco and with approximately 20 courses across the country there is a good choice and the landscape of each is very individual.  Below we mention a little more detail on ones near our locations.

Marrakech Golf

Royal Golf de Marrakech

Built in the 1920’s this course has earned its royal name as a favourite of His Majesty King Hassan II, many other world leaders have enjoyed this course too.  At the foot of the Atlas Mountains this Royal Golf has been regularly renovated and updated over the years and is still a firm favourite with todays golfers.  Only fifteen minutes from the centre of Marrakech you are transferred to a lush area of eucalyptus, palm, olive and orange trees and lush greens with the snow capped Atlas in the background.  An 18 hole, Par 72 course there are challenges imposed by the beautiful trees and strategically place bunkers.  Needless to say the usual facilities for practice and refreshment are here.

Palmeraie Golf

Located about 10kms from Marrakech and in the Palmeraie area which is a lovely Palm Grove, this course was designed by Robert Trent Jones sr.  It has the beautiful backdrop of the Atlas, a wide green valley and the contrasting desert, an enviable location.  With 18 holes the 6200 metres play to Par 72.  The centre piece is a stunning Moorish Club House and the challenge comes from the 7 lakes and various sand hazards, many refer to this as one of the designers’ masterpieces.

Amelkis Golf

Close to the Royal Golf course of Marrakech, Amelkis was designed by Cabel Robinson and is a Par 72, 6657 metre 18 hole course. It has an unusual design having incorporated the 11th century irrigation works so is a bit of a historical site too.  As with the other courses its fairways are line with palm, olive and other trees as well as some splendid luxury villas. It is a more technical course and will challenge the play with its various water hazards, particularly on the back nine and its red earth bunkers give a different atmosphere to the normal sand bunkers.

Agadir Golf

Has three courses we mention two of those here.

Golf des Dunes

This is three nine hole courses, par 36, and is set in a slightly hilly landscape about 10 minutes from Agadir town.  Designed by Cabell B Robinson the three courses offer different levels of difficulty and challenge, the yellow course (L’Oeud - the Wadi) needs plenty of skill whilst the red course (Le Tamaris - Tamarisk) will require all the clubs in your bag, whereas the blue cours (L’Eucalyptus) is a good introduction with larges fairways.

Golf du Soleil

Is located next to the Golf des Dunes and is also three nine holes courses, again Par 36 and will suit all abilities. The bunkers and lakes and the lovely trees of mimosa, eucalyptus, tamarisk and palms all add to the challenge and the beauty of this course.

Fes Golf

Fez Royal Golf

Another Cabell B Robinson designed course currently with 9 holes and a further 9 under construction.  15kms from Fez city centre it has mountain views and an olive grove setting a complete contrast to the busy city.  The accentuated terrain of sloping greens and undulating fairways make this a pleasurable and challenging course to play.
