Annual Events in Madeira
There are many village fiestas celebrating the local patron saint these are a great day out with lots of traditional hospitality. Here we mention some major events of the Madeira calendar, naturally these will be regularly updated as information becomes available.
February
Carnival 2 – 5 February this is a Mardi Gras celebration with a parade of floats on the Sunday. It is a week of fun with lots of music and the hotels generally have Gala meals to celebrate this folk festival which culminates in the costume parade on Shrove Tuesday. A popular event with visitors.
March

April
5 – 6 April - The Flower Festival in April is another popular event with the streets of Funchal “blossoming”. The amazing floats, exhibitions and displays of flower carpets and the childrens event where the build the “Wall of Hope” with flowers are all quite a spectacle. Other event surround this festival.

June
The month of June celebrates the Festival of the Atlantic which combines culture and entertainment and includes the Madeira Music Festival and the International Fireworks Competition. There are classical music performances and more. Details to be added as they are announced.
July
Funchal Jazz Festival is held open air in the Jardins da Quinta Magnolia in Funchal. This event attracts musicians from the island and from the international jazz scene.
August
Madeira Wine Rally - Usually the first weekend in August this is the largest car event in the region and famous names from motor racing take part. For two day they race around parts of the island and everyone heads to the mountains for the best views of the event.
14 – 15 August is the Monte Festival, the main religious festival in the region and celebrated by Madeira expats all over the world. This normally quiet village is transformed with plenty of food, drink and music.
Madeira Wine Festival – usually the last weekend in August or first weekend in September it celebrates the grape harvest and wine making industry.
September
Artmar Festival in Camara de Lobos – open air music festival. Details and dates to follow.
Cider Sampling - Santo da Serra. Details and dates to follow.
Machico Triathlon. Details and dates to follow.

New Years Eve in Madeira is a spectacular event with a Guiness World record breaking firework display.
