Troudos
The Troudos mountain are a complete contrast to the coastal areas and the lovely forests are a cool welcome on warm summer days and in winter you can even Ski (subject, naturally to snowfall) in the mountains in the morning and then return to the coast for a swim in the afternoon.
Limassol area
Amathus -One of the ancient city Kingdoms of Cyprus where according to legend, Theseus left the pregnant Ariadne to be taken care of, after his battle with the Minotaur. Excavations are still continuing at the Acropolis and Agora area of the ancient site. Numerous tombs have been found, one of them can be visited in front of the Amathus Beach Hotel.
Kourion An important ancient city kingdom, and one of the more interesting and spectacular archaeological sites on the island with excavations still bringing new treasures to light. The magnificent Graeco-Roman Theatre was originally built in the 2nd century BC and enlarged in the 2nd century AD. It is now fully restored and used for musical and theatrical performances. The Early Christian Basilica dated to the 5th century was probably the Cathedral of Kourion with a baptistery attached to the north side. The House of Achilles and the House of the Gladiators have beautiful mosaic floors.
There are several interesting Museums in Limassol including Castle Cuprus Medieval Museum, the Folk Art Museum and the Municipal Art Gallery, The District Archaelogical Museum and more.
Wines
Wine is a major industry in Cyprus and visits to local wineries are often included on the Limassol Walks which operate once a week. Alternatively visitors are welcome at many of the wineries in Limassol and in other areas. There are also some wine tours that take you to wine producing villages with the opportunity to taste the wines produced. The Wine Festival is held for 10 days in September and there are many free tasting sessions during the festival.

Shopping in Cyprus
There are a good range of smaller shops in the resorts but for the serious shopper it has to be Limassol (try Makarios Avenue) or a trip to Nicosia the Capital where one can find some good designer wear. Many of the large hotels also have some nice boutiques.Local best buys though include ceramics, basketry, weaving, wood carving, silver and copper products. Of course there is always the wine too!
