Golf in Marbella

This is still one of the major attractions of this area and with over 30 courses to choose from within a half hour radius it is not surprising.  Naturally we cannot mention them all here, but we do mention a selection close to or within a short drive of some of our hotels.  If you would like information on other courses do please let us know..

Marbella Golf

Under the same ownership as the Marbella Club and Puente Romano hotels guest staying within these properties have preferred Tee times and green fees.  But this is not just a hotel golf course it is a competition course of outstanding reputation and beautiful terrain.
Playing to Par 72 over 6000 metres it is a testing, with its steep ravines, but very enjoyable course.  Designed by Robert Trent Jones, who has worked with the natural landscape, each hole is unique in character while the views down to the sea are consistent. The Club house has a very good restaurant , pro shop and there are tennis courts and a riding stable nearby,

Guadalmina Club de Golf

Under the same ownership as another hotel we do work with, although not shown here, is this course is a few minutes from San Pedro and about 15 from Marbella town.  There are two 18 hole courses plus 9, here.  The original 9 hole course opened as far back as 1959 and was extended to 18 holes and is known as the South Course part of which runs alongside the sea.  The other 18 holes (the North course) were opened in 1973 and plays to Par 72 whilst the South is Par 71.  The South is considered the more difficult  and is recommended for the more experienced player.  The North is interesting and quite tight, hilly and has water some challenging water hazards.  All the expected facilities are here too.

La Quinta Golf

Again attached to a hotel that we work with though not shown here, La Quinta is about 5 to 10 minutes inland from Puerto Banus.  This course is three nines offering three combinations of 18 holes. Designed in 1990 by Manuel Piñero, some say it reflects his style of playing as it benefits the accurate player more than the long hitter. It will suit all levels of ability, but if you want to improve there is the Manuel Piñero school on site.  The course combinations are as follows: A & B is Par 70 5602 meters; A & C is Par 71 5915 metres and B & C is Par 71 5794 metres.  The sloping fairways, deep bunkers, water hazards and trees create the challenge.  A particularly nice Club House.

Los Naranjos Golf

Celebrating its 30th year this 6500 metre, Par 72 course could be two 9 hole course the front nine are so different from the back nine.  A Robert Trent Jones Sr., designed course, the first nine holes are typical with wide fairways and gentle slopes with the challenge coming from the hazards, the last nine are more level. This is a popular course in the area  and is about 10 minutes from the coast .

Rio Real Golf

Situated east of Marbella town, about 5 minutes by taxi, this course is set in a lovely valley and runs towards the sea.  Established in 1965 it was designed by Javier Arana it is not an easy course to play with the Real river and streams crossing at various locations and the well established trees on the fairways.  It is a very attractive location and the hotel of the same name attached to it is a quiet very contemporary hotel that we would happily book for you.  The course runs to 6729 yards and is Par 72, the club house is a great place to relax after your game.

The are so many other excellent courses that we have not mentioned here if you have a favourite do let us know.

Beaches in and around Marbella

One of the other main attractions of this area is the long coastline and beaches.  Although they sometimes appear to be one long beach they are officially broken down into something like 24 beaches, many of them with the Blue Flag recognition.  In addition to the beaches in front of each of our hotels, we mention a few below that you may like to visit.

Guadalmina Beach

Located next to the Golf course and hotel of the same name this is a 1600 metre golden sand beach near San Pedro Alcantara.  It is a Blue Flag beach and although it is a tourist beach it does not get as busy as some in the peak season.  It does have public facilities, life guards in season, a couple of beach restaurants and some water sports such as windsurfing, pedaloes and jetski.

Artola Beach

East of Marbella town this is a 1500 meter fine sand beach is the protect Dune area. It has public services and part of the area is occupied by the Cabopino Leisure Port which has beach restaurants and where pedaloes can be rented.  The council clean this beach every day. It is not on the doorstep of our hotels but as a slightly less busy beach than some others and for its fine dune sand it is worth the trip there for the day, please note part of this beach is used by naturists.

Puerto Banus Beach

Alongside the Jose Banus Port with lots of facilities including a play area with swings and slides for children, water sports for adults and is fine golden sand.  It is 1000 metres long and adjoins the New Andalucia Beach almost another 1000 metres.  The waters here are clean and clear and there is Blue Flag recognition too.

These are just a few of the alternative beaches to those in front of our hotels.
