Forthcoming events in Malta
There are many events held in Malta we select just some to show here, but if you have a particular interest or a date you would like us to check the events for do let us know. In addition to these events there are regular local fiestas in towns and villages celebrating the patron saint.
Annual Events in Malta
Many events for 2008 have not been announced yet, here we show those that have and indicate others that normally take place.
February
1 – 5 February is Carnival time which is traditional with colourful floats, children in fancy dress and a party atmosphere across the island. The main events take place in Valletta but each town and village has their own celebration too.
March
14 – 23 March - Holy Week most activity is centred around the church, naturally, with a procession in Valletta carrying the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows through towns and villages on the Friday before Good Friday. Easter Saturday sees, or rather hears, the bells toll announcing the Resurrection and Easter Sunday is a family day.
31 March 2008 – There will be a regatta in the Grand Harbour in Valletta to commemorate Freedom Day. More details to follow as they are announced.
April

May
The U.I.M Powerboat P1 World Championship was held on 5 and 6 May in 2007, this is a great spectacle in the Grand Harbour of Valletta the fast modern boats against the historical back drop. Details will be updated as they are announced.
In May 2007 there were several Music concerts and festivals and The Malta Cultural Institute organizes nine concerts every season. These will be held on the first Monday of every month between October and June. Theses concerts are usually held at the Casino Maltese in Valletta, Entry is free of charge. We will update and add any concerts as they are confirmed.
June
Concerts again feature and in 2007 Jose Carreras appeared in St Georges Square Valletta whilst Bryan Adams performed at the Luxol grounds. Let’s hope there is an equally exciting summer of artists in Malta in 2008.
July
Every July a popular jazz festival enlivens the 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valletta, capital of Malta, for three nights. Established in 1990, the festival attracts world-renowned jazz musicians to perform on the Grand Harbour of this beautiful, seaside town.
Past performers have included Diana Krall, Chick Corea, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Wayne Shorter, and the festival always presents an eclectic range of musical talent. As soon as the 2008 details are known we will publish them here.
2008 should see the 5th Edition of the Golden Cross International Singing Festival around the third week of July. In 2007 it was held in Gozo but we do not know its location for 2008 yet.

October
October should see the 3rd edition of Notte Biance an all night fest of entertainment which includes art, music, drama, sculpture, dance, film, photography, fashion, interactive shows and displays, visual installations, tours, re-enactments, exhibitions, shopping, dining and clubbing. Locations and venues for this event include museums, theatres, arts and cultural centers, libraries, churches, chapels, historical sites, Auberges, cinemas, squares, streets, shops, arcades, markets, beverage and catering outlets
